Helpful Travel tips!
General Tips:
- Always check if your destination requires you to do a Covid test to enter! To check this, visit the government website! For Hawaii for example they're very strict about the accepted covid tests!
- Check if you need to upload a negative covid test online to enter your destination.
- Don't pack too much clothes you probably won't need! You can do the laundry and just bring clothes for one week!
- If you need to do the laundry, do this at your hotel / AirBnb. This is usually way cheaper ($1-$3) than at a laundromat.
- Buy a soap bar to wash your laundry by hand. You can use this for ages!!
- Bring a small first-aid kit!
- Bring a reusable water bottle! You can refill this almost anywhere, except in National Parks or in the desert. Don't forget you can't bring water through the security! Refill your bottle once you passed the security at the airport!
- Don't forget to bring your phone charger and a powerbank!
- If you don't want to bring your passport with you all the time, just put it between your clothes in your suitcase. Usually no one will see it or look there!
- If you don’t know what clothes to bring just bring the following: 2 long jeans/ pants, 5 shirts, 3 tank tops, 2 sweaters, and underwear as much as possible as that’s what you mostly need! And wear the jackets you want to bring or wrap them around!
Tips for Hikers:
- Wear a cap if you're going on a hike. This doesn't only prevent your face from getting a sunburn, it also helps avoiding bugs in your eyes!
- Even on a cloudy day, put on enough sunscreen if you go hiking! You don't want to get a sunburn on your trip!
- Bring good hiking shoes and a small backpack for snacks and water etc.
- Bring bug spray!
- If you're planning to go hiking in the mountains, check if there's a chance the trails are icy so you can adjust your shoes and clothes etc if needed!
Travel tips for cold weather:
- Wear a few light layers over each other and one or two thicker layers only. If you decide to wear a lot of thicker layers cause you think this keeps you war, you should realize this won't work for long cause your body will be overheated and you'll produce sweat to cool off. If this happens you will probably take of one or more layers and in the end you will be much colder.
- Buy self activating heating pads for in your gloves and socks if you're destination has extremely cold temperatures. Those might be a little expensive (or not at the target!) but they will definitely help you! Sometimes even up to 8 hours!
- For girls who like to wear make-up, be aware that extremely cold weather won't make your make up look better... Your eyelashes will freeze in a few minutes in Alaska for example!
Travel tips for warm weather:
- Bring several bathing suits & shorts. If you want to dry them, use a blow dryer!
- Bring a beach towel with you if it fits or a smaller towel. You can't really use hotel towels for the beach unfortunately, especially cause they are usually white.
- Bring a small tube of sunscreen to use the first day(s) you arrive. After that you will probably have had some time to buy more.
- Bring some water in your suitcase if there is space left. You can't drink tap water everywhere and especially in warm destinations it's good to have access to some water once you arrive!
- Don't bring any food in your suitcase when you're traveling to a warm destination! Everything will get bad on the way there and it might even smell in your suitcase with all your clothes!
